Rocket French is a program designed to take beginners of the French language through the intermediate and early advanced stages of the language.
The entire package is comprised of 31 audio lessons and 45 grammar lessons. The first 25 of the grammar lessons deal with beginner French and help you learn the basics. After that the next 10 lessons progress to teach you intermediate level French, and then the last 10 teach you advanced French. The audio lessons progress in difficulty from beginner to advanced.
Length of the audio lessons are between 20 and 30 minutes, and the grammar lessons can vary from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Remember that this can be done at your own pace. Some people work faster and others slower. It's up to you to take as much or as little time as you want.
The Audio Lessons Rocket French Review
The audio courses in Rocket French are great. The actual lessons are narrated by native French speakers and then the narrator/teacher is a native English speaker. They are easy to understand and follow.
The Audio courses come with a transcript so you can follow along with a written version if you want.
The Audio lessons are basically in-context conversations that take place in different scenarios such as a restaurant or a grocery store. After the initial dialogue the course takes you through a review of the grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciations used.
You will be invited to repeat specific words and phrases so that you can learn proper pronunciation. Basically the French narrator will state a phrase or sentence and then pause to allow you to repeat it. Other times the English narrator will ask a question and pause for you to answer. He then gives the correct response.
This is a rather common and effective approach to getting yourself accustomed to speaking French words. The only drawback to this is that there's nobody to critique your pronunciation. However, this is somewhat difficult with all learn-at-home courses.
The audio section is very useful to help you get used to hearing French dialogue as well as speaking it. You'll gain confidence in your French speaking skills

The Grammar Lessons Rocket French Review
The grammar lessons of Rocket French are jam packed with 400 pages of curriculum. They are illustrated and supplemented with over 3,000 audio tracks and 788 activity exercises.
The grammar lessons go like this: the topic is introduced and you are given an overview of the new French words and phrases to be used in the lesson. You then can read through the introduction. The grammar lessons allow you to play an audio for the French words and phrases used throughout. The audio will play the English version, then the French version, then pause to allow you to repeat the French version for pronunciation and reinforcement. Lastly the French version will be played again.
At the end of each lesson there are a variety of multiple choice questions and written exercises to help you digest everything you have learned.
There is also a "random" button that will take a random word or phrase from the lesson and play the audio.
The great thing about this program is that it doesn't matter if you're a beginner or already know some French already. Rocket French is so expansive that it will just pick you up right where you are and help you learn even more.

The Games Rocket French Review
There are three games included with Rocket French. They are MegaVocab, MegaVerbs, and MegaAudio. These games utilize a combination of audio and visual cues to help you learn and retain the new French words you are learning.
MegaVocab is a game for learning and recognizing French vocabulary words. In the game you are given 6 pictures and the object is to match the picture to the random vocab word.
MegaVerbs helps you practice and learn verb conjugation. In the game you are given a verb and you must conjugate it into the correct tense and person. There are 20 questions per round and the verbs are selected randomly. Conjugation is hard in any language, and this game really helps you catch on to the different rules.
MegaAudio is a great way to help you learn to comprehend and understand spoken French. The game gives you 4 pictures, then a French word or phrase is spoken. You then must select the proper picture that matches the word or phrase.
These games are a great way to break up the lesson structure and gives you some variety. The best thing about these games is that they help you make connections of visual objects to words, which is the best and most natural way to learn a language.

Overall we think Rocket French is an excellent program. If you're looking to learn French then you can't go wrong here. It's very cost effective, and costs half as much as the popular Rosetta Stone course. We have found the Rocket Language series to be on par with the Rosetta Stone courses and cost much less.
